This is an exhibition showing the way people
have used straw all through history until today.
A World of Straw
All over the world and way back in history human beings have used straw.
Straw has existed as a raw material just as long as man has cultivated soil.
Straw was used in the beginning of time as a material for braiding and sewing different things for practical use. Straw was also used in different ritual situations.
In spite of the fact that straw isn't a durable material several old works of straw have been found. Most of them are in the shape of casts in clay.
They have been found in Iraq, Palestine, Egypt, Peru and Europe
In Iraq a basket was found. It was seven-braided and made about 5000 B.C.
In Egypt big containers for barley were found. They were made in a spiral binding technique probably around 4500 B.C.
